Five reasons why your ‘No Makeup Look’ looks made up.

Amongst all the  makeup trends out there, the ‘No Makeup Look’ is undoubtly the most popular. The concept of the No Makeup Look is pretty darn simple, to apply makeup and not look like you have any on. Need examples?

Miranda Kerr with fresh and rosy makeup.
Gigi Hadid – looking effortlessly beautiful.

Song Hye Kyo  sporting a natural and glow makeup look.

Do not let the name deceive you, this is not an easy makeup look to perfect, this is especially true if you’re used to using makeup to hide your imperfections (I hear you sister). I know it took me a while before I grasped the concept and for beginners or fellow-strugglers out there let me break down some of the common mistakes I made in trying to achieve this look so that you don’t have too!

Discamer: If what you’re doing looks good for you then you do you sister!

Too Heavy Too Fast

Too Faced Born This Way

A big no-no in trying to achieve the ‘No Makeup Look’ is the heavy use of foundation. The idea of the look is to come across as being makeup-free not perfect. Using too much foundation in attempts of covering up all your imperfections will defeat the purpose. With this look it’s okay to show some imperfections, you want to look enhanced not perfect.

A BB cream or tinted moisturiser may be perfect or if you do chose to use a foundation use sparingly or layer the product to build coverage rather than use a lot at first.

Recommend:  Too Faced’s Born This Way Foundation is a great foundation for this look. It gives a medium coverage with a dewy finish – just make sure to start off small and layer the product slowly, preferably with a beauty blender.

Lashes to Heaven

Product Review: Too faced Waterproof Mascara

I’ve rarely met anyone who has been blessed with naturally va-voom lashes. Using false lashes in this look could make it look a tad over done (unless you select one that is natural enough). I tend to struggle with falsies and even ‘natural’ ones look a bit over done for me. For the look, two coats of your favourite mascara will do, remember the idea is not to lengthen or add too much volume but rather just to define those lashes.

Recommend: Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara Waterproof , a mascara that darkens and defines lashes would be a great choice!

Powdering It Up

You can most certainly set your base with a powder but use sparingly! Do not cake on that setting powder as it will leave your skin looking cakey and heavy. If you accidentally over do it in this department then a setting spray should be able to save the look.

Recommend:  Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light, this powder will give you  that all over subtle glow that Miranda Kerr is sporting! Could you ask for more?

A Perfectly Lined Pout

Again, remember it’s a natural look. Perfectly lined and filled in lips are reserved for those more heavy or more ‘made-up’ looks. A simple gloss or lip tint will give you a perfect burst of colour and keeps your look understated and refresh!

Recommend: Bourjois’s Rouge Laque (pictured) gives the lips a soft tint and a little goes a long way.

The Perfect Winged Liner

Too Faced Sketch Eyeliner Rainy Wonderland

Perfectly lining your eyes may give away the fact that you’ve used makeup. It’s not to say that you cannot define your eyes, but consider a more subtle wing or use of brown or less harsher eyeliner colours. Kohl pencils are perfect for this step!

Recommend: Maybelline’s Kohl Eyeliner in Chocolate Chip is a nice brown liner pencil that can shape and define eyes. It’s not smudge proof so make sure you lock it up with some brown eye shadow!

How many of these mistakes are you guilty of?

Review: Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light

Hi and welcome to The Rainy Wonderland Blog!

So, it’s been a while since I’ve last posted a review, and theres really only one boring explaination for that… work.  At long last I’m finally  getting a bit of a breather and what better way to celebrate than to write a review?

This review is particularly exciting for me as it’s on one of the most hyped about makeup product – Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder (in Diffused Light). Almost all makeup gurus would have this on their vanity table, it’s something that I’ve thought about for a loooong time before finally taking the plunge!

So lets dive into the review!

The Ambient Lighting Powders are a wardrobe of universally flattering shades that recreate soft focus effects, emulating the most beautiful lighting sources. Each powder captures, diffuses and softens the way light reflects on the skin. It brightens the skin’s appearance whilst blurring imperfections, pores and wrinkles. The ground-breaking Photoluminescent Technology transforms complexion, mimicking the appearance your skin in its perfect light for a flawless finish. Suitable for all skin types.

Packaging: Beautiful! The packaging is absolutely gorgeous, it has an expensive feel to it and is also very sturdy. It comes with a mirror making it easy for touch ups on the go!

Formula: The formula is finely milled, it’s not overly powdery and in fact feels rather smooth and silky to the touch. However, be careful not to use too much as it can look cakey on the skin if not careful and instead of blurring out your imperfections it may just emphasise it.

Glow-effect: Natural. It gives you a very natural ambient kinda glow, there’s no chunky glitter, this making the look super natural.

LongevityThe Ambient Finishing Powder is great for that youthful glow, however It does not help keep your makeup on for all that long. At best it might help keep your makeup in place for ~ 3 hours.

Shades: The Ambient Finishing Powder is available in six shades, so you’ll be sure to find one that compliment your skin tone! I found the Diffused Light to be particularly flattering for my yellow-toned skin.

Price: High. At $67 AUD for 10g worth of product it ain’t cheap. However, it seems to last a while and you’re really paying for what you get.

Repurchase: Yes! I love how this powder makes my face look so much more awake and youthful! No more dull skin for me!

Overall, this is a pricey powder however it does a great job at brightening your complexion and giving you that youthful looking glow. You don’t need very much to achieve the desirable effect so a little goes a long way, it’s definitely an investment worth making! So be sure to try it out!

And that’s it folks!

Thank you for visiting and until next time…

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette: Swatches

Every year makeup companies release so many limited editions or new collection products to their line that it’s often super hard (and also financially difficult) to keep up with. Often most-hyped about products aren’t really worth your time at all. However, the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow lives up to it’s reputation.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

The palette is filled with an array of beautiful eyeshadow colours ranging form matte to shimmer and dark blacks. The palette is a must have for all makeup addicts and will be able to help you create all the looks you desire!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

Price: Reasonable. This palette retails for $70 AUD, which isn’t exactly cheap, however for the number of shades you’re getting and the quality of these eyeshadows, it’s definite worth the money!

Pigmentation: Great! Check out the swatches below to see how great the pigmentation are!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

Scent: Super peachy! The scent is nice and sweet, definitely the aroma of peaches for sure!

Formula: Buttery. The formula is buttery to the touch but can apply onto the lids a bit powdery. The eyeshadows are super blend ably, however the shades Talk Derby To Me and Delectable may be the most powdery of the lot.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

Score: 9/10 – No words, just go try it!

I hope you enjoyed the review!

Dolly Wink eyeliner

*BEST EYELINER EVER* Review: Koji Dolly Wink’s Liquid Eyeliner in Black

Hello Wonderlandians!

Another week and other product review, I’m particularly excited about this review because it’s one of my absolute holy grail eyeliner! So  hold on to your socks will ya cause this product is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!

Let’s just dive in before the suspense kills us! 😉

Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner is a liquid eyeliner with a fine pen tip that can be used to draw precise lines. The film-like, water proof formula adheres perfectly to the skin and dries quickly, dissolving in warm water for easy removal. It contains four moisturising and beautifying ingredients, including honey, hyaluronic acid, chamomile and grape leaf extract. Available in two shades: Dark Brown and Deep Black.

Dolly Wink eyeliner

Packaging: Princessy. I guess if you’re into the whole cutesy princess themes then you’ll love this packaging. The baby pink makes the eyeliner look so doll-like and cutesy, the gold print font and design on the pen also adds to the cute factor.

Longevity: MIND BLOWING (8+ hours). Yes, you’ve read it right, this eyeliner lasts a V-E-R-Y L-O-N-G time! Not something that happens very often with eyeliners (especially for me and my oily lids anyways).

Formula: Great! This liquid liner is inky and smooth in consistency. Everything you’ll want in an eyeliner!

Dolly Wink eyeliner

Water resistance: Yup. (Cold) Water is no match for this eyeliner! Although the manufacturer claims that warm water can dissolve the eyeliner, but I’ve yet to try this but then again warm water is the least of my worries!

Sweat resistance: Yup. I come home from a sweaty day at work and voila – my neat little cat wing still in place! Exactly like how it was when I left it in the morning!

Smudge proof? Oh YES! Unless you rub it off while it’s still wet, then there’s no moving this liner once it’s dried in place. Perfect for a night out I’ll say!!

Dolly Wink eyeliner

Ease of Use: EASY PEASY! The felt tip is made from such good quality material, it’s a dream to work with! It’s flexible and doesn’t clog up like my other eyeliners can when I use it on top of eyeshades. It also applies smoothly and it’s so inky that even the tiniest of strokes won’t be missed.

Price: Mid-end. I got mine for about $24 AUD which is pretty much the average price for decent eyeliners like  CLIO’s Waterproof Brush Liner (eyeliner).

Overall, I absolutely loved this eyeliner and was completely blow away by how well it worked. The Clio’s Eyeliner (my previous holy grail) is absolutely no match for this one! In fact, I regret stocking up on the Clio 😦 .  This is definitely an investment worth making so I highly suggest you get your hands on these now!

SCORE: 8.5/10 (

Yves Saint Laurent’s Devoted To YSL Palette Parisienne (Travel Exclusive)

Hello Wonderlandians!

I’m finally back to my blogging routine now after a few weeks of extensive Lunar New Year’s celebrating and working my butt off at work. I hope you’ve all had a blissful few years  weeks and I’m now coming back at ya with another product review.

This is going to be an interesting one, with the good, the bad and the ugly! Let’s dive in!

The most unique and elegant Parisienne palette comes with 10 “Couture” colors: 5 eye shadows, 4 lipsticks, 1 blush, mini Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Black and 3 professional brushes. Its compact size is perfect for women on the move; allows infinite possibilities for creating a “Parisian Look”. The pouch can also be used alone as a chic fashion accessory.

This set contains:

  • 1 x Ombres Solo Powder Eye Shadow Shade #2 Brun Cachemire 1g
  • 1 x Ombres Solo Powder Eye Shadow Shade #3 Bleu De Perse 1g
  • 1 x Ombres Lumieres Powder Eye Shadow #2 Beige Rose 2g
  • 1 x Ombres Lumieres Powder Eye Shadow #3 Taupe Nacre 1g
  • 1 x Ombres Lumieres Powder Eye Shadow #11 Violet Aubergine 1g
  • 3 x Rouge A Levres Solid Lip Colors 0.67g
  • 1 x Gloss Solid Lip Color 0.67g
  • 1 x Blush Radiance Powder Blusher Shade #4 Mate 8g
  • 1 x Mini Mascara Voulme Effet Cils Shocking Gratuit Free Black Mascara Shade #1 Noir 2ml
  • 3 x Professional Brush

Packaging: Elegantly beautiful. The palette is absolutely impeccably designed. Chic and sturdy with a high quality full mirror to fit! It also comes in a nice pouch which also has room for the mascara and makeup brushes too! No complaints about the packaging here! 🙂

The Good: Blush Radiance Powder Blusher Shade #4 Mate & the supplied Professional brushes.  the one item I love the most in this whole palette would be the Blush Radiance Powder Blusher Shade #4 Mate. Not only do I love the way the YSL logo is printed on it but the baby pink is so beautiful! The blush isn’t all that pigmented but all the better, it makes it easier for me to control how much blush I apply and it also builds up very well too! The makeup brushes are also pretty good quality.

The Bad: Rouge A Levres Solid Lip Colours. The lip colours, although they look absolutely amazing in the palette, they’re actually not all that pigmented. It takes at lease 4+ applications before you’ll get any colour pay off (except for the darkest shade which may still require at least 2 applications). The shimmery gloss adds more shimmer than gloss to the look and is relatively a nice top up to any matte lipsticks that you want to take up a notch, but then even this shade is only average at best.

The Ugly: Ombres Solo Powder Eye Shadows and the Ombres Lumieres Powder Eye Shadows. All the eyeshadows in this palette are awfully patchy and not at all pigmented. Whilst they look stunning in the palette, these colours do not translate on the eyelids . Additionally the fall out is absolutely appalling! The only shade that’s at all okay would be the Ombres Lumieres Powder Eye Shadow that can help you brighten up the inner corners of the eyes in a subtle manner.

Yet to try: Mini Mascara Voulme Effet Cils Shocking Gratuit Free Black. I’ve got too many mascaras still to work though at the moment so I’ve got to save this little one for next time! 😉

Price: Reasonable. This retails for $84.00 SG at Changi Airport, which is a relatively reasonable price for a high end product like YSL.

Overall, this palette is nice to the eyes but not at all useful when it comes to achieving the flawless makeup look you’re after. Whilst the small compact palette makes it a dream to travel with, however it’ll must likely be a useless accompanying item.

SCORE: 4/10 – (i.e Not worth your time).

I hope you enjoyed the review!

Until next time,

Part 2: Skincare and Makeup Haul

Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year’s everyone! Wishing you all an amazing Year of the Dog with plenty of adventure and laughters! If you’re celebrating Chinese New Year’s this year then I trust you must be receiving some lucky red pockets – big or small they sure elevate our moods don’t they? For those of you who don’t celebrate Chinese New Year’s, red pockets are basically little beautifully designed paper bags that are used to hold some money. Often elders would gift their children or any juniors a lucky ‘red pocket’ at the beginning of the Lunar New Year in hopes of gifting them joy and luck all year round.

Red pockets are a fun and festive way to celebrate and enjoy the New Year’s and when the festivities wears off, this little accumulation of wealth gives us a great opportunity to treat ourselves as a tap on the back for working hard.

If you’re tapping your fingers on your chin thinking about what treats to get yourself this year then please allow me to be of assistance. Maybe my mini skincare and makeup haul may be of inspiration? 😀

Bobbi Brown’s Lip Colour in Pale Pink Review

Rainy wonderland Bobbi Brown Review

It’s almost the Chinese New Year and this year I’ve decided to not sport the popular Red Lip look but something a bit more fresh and youthful. Makeup addicts out there will understand my pain here when I say finding the perfect shade of pink (or red, or any colour really) for your lips is a pretty hard task. A general analysis will require deriving calculus equations and solving for x – nah I’m exaggerating! But it took half and hour of constant badgering around Bobbi Brown’s counter, numerous swatches and 10 minutes of wondering what the name of my last swatch is, before I found my perfect pink! The sales assistant actually looked at all of my swatches at the end and said, ‘they’re all the same’ – no girl they ain’t the same, don’t get me started! Haha

Anyways, jumping in..

(Bobbi Brown’s Lip Colour in Pale Pink)

Bobbi Brown Rainy Wonderland

The bestseller that started it all—Bobbi Brown’s creamy, semi-matte lipstick was the first formula to launch (and sold out instantly). The secret to its success? Comfortable, full-coverage colour instantly gives lips a polished look.

The woman who wants a creamy, semi-matte lipstick.

The non-drying formula offers full-colour coverage and comfortable, long-lasting wear.

Apply straight from the tube on clean, bare lips. Follow the natural line of the mouth, evenly covering the upper and lower lip. For a soft, stained look, blot with a tissue. For a more precise application, brush on with Bobbi Brown’s Lip Brush (sold separately).

Rainy wonderland Bobbi Brown Review

Packaging: Classy. This sleek black packaging is sleek and chic not to mention super classy too. It’s also pretty sturdy and the lid clicks on and off like a breeze.

Rainy Wonderland Bobbi Brown

Shades: Plenty! With 25 shades, Bobbi Brown has got you covered! It honestly took me so loooong just to pick this one perfect shade!

Formulation: Great. The formula of this Bobbi Brown Lip colour is creamy and glides on like butter. It’s also quite pigmented so one swipe will usually suffice, however you may need at least two if you’re after a pop of colour. Regarding the finish, I wouldn’t say semi-matte, it was more on the glossy side than matte (which I’m okay with).

Longevity:  ~1-2 hours. Now despite being informed by the sales assistant that this is a long lasting formula, I actually didn’t find that it lasts very long at all. At best this lip colour will stay put for 2 hours and frequent retouching will be required if you want to keep the colour looking fresh .

Rainy wonderland Bobbi Brown Review

Pigmentation: Good. These lip colours are pigmented enough to give your lips a soft coloured look. I guess depending on the colour you chose, pigmentation may very (I remembered the plum coloured ones were very pigmented).

Price: High-end.  I got mine for $35 AUD at Changi Airport, usually these lip colours would retail for about $45 in Oz – which is fairly expensive for me.

Repurchase?  Yes. I love how Bobbi Brown has so many lipstick shades! I really could be there all day testing out the colours and formulas. I think that this lip colour is a really decent product that is worth having in your vanity. I’ll definetly repurchase a Bobbi Brown Lipstick again for sure!

Overall, I was pleasantly pleased with Bobbi Brown’s Lip Colour, I particularly loved the shade Pale Pink that I got – it was the perfect pink colour I was after. The lip colour  lipsticks have definitely lived up to the hype (although I wished it lasted longer) and I will most certainly try more products from the range.

Thank you for reading and again,

Hada Labo Hydrating Face Wash

Hada Labo Hydrating Face Wash: Review

Often the most simplest of things can be the hardest. For year’s I’ve been trying to find a cleanser that can cleanse my face effectively and not leave my skin all tight and uncomfortable. My mission during my recent trip to Asia was to find a (potentially) perfect cleanser for my skin, and I think I may have found the one…

Dying to know? .. Let’s dive in!

Hada Labo Hydrating Face Wash

With two types of Hyaluronic Acid to deeply hydrate skin for significantly soft, smooth and supple skin after every wash.

Ultra fine foam that gently washes away impurities, dirt and oil without drying or irritating the skin.

  • Hydrates as it cleanses while preserving skin’s natural moisture.
  • Skin pH balanced
  • Low irritation
  • Free of fragrance, colorant and alcohol.

Hada Labo Hydrating Face Wash

Packaging: Simple and practical. The cleanser comes in the typical tube, the design is simple and practical making it super easy to use. This is especially great on nights where you just need to wash off the makeup and hit the bed.

Scent: None. I’m happy to announce that there is absolutely no (irritating) scent to this product, making it perfect for my super sensitive skin.

Performance: Excellent! I’ve tried numerous cleansers and about 90% of these have caused my skin to either break out or leave it dry and irritated. The cleanser lathers up into a soft and velvety foam, making it feel luxuriously delicate on the skin. After cleansing it leaves my skin felling balanced and hydrated.

Price: Affordable. I got mine at Watsons in Singapore for ~$13 SG ( $13 AUD).  For a cleanser (100g) that is pH balanced and free of fragrance, colourant and alcohol – this is an amazing deal! I’m kicking myself for not stocking up! 😦

Repurchase? Y-E-S! There’s no way I’m not stocking up on this good stuff the next time I’m in Singapore (or anywhere that stocks this!).

Overall, I love this cleanser! I’ve been trying to find a perfectly simple and effective cleanser for the longest time but have been left disappointed repeatedly. At Watsons, I’ve considered purchasing the much raved about Cosrx’s gel cleanser but I found this little guy instead and am so glad I did! This cleanser does everything a good cleanser should do and at a very affordable price too (plus doesn’t contain all the unnecessary nasties). All in all, I love this cleanser and would strongly recommend you guys give it a try!!

Have fun making your skin beautiful!

Until next time,

Makeup and Skincare Haul: Part 1 – Duty Free

January is usually the month where most people get bitten by the travel bug, and lucky for me I happen to be one of those people this year. My trip to Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore was absolutely amazing! We explored the places (Singapore to a lesser extent since we’ve been there before), indulged in the local cuisines and of course shopped until we dropped.

I made sure to do all my research before hand to make sure I got the best deals, and good thing I did as I found that a lot of the makeup in Singapore costs the same as it does here in Australia. For that reason I reserved most of my budget for the duty free shopping at Changi Airport. Prior to my visit I’d checked out the duty free deals online and had accumulated a list of items I wanted (I suggest you do the same), this helped me ensure that I’m getting the best good deals ! 😀

My haul was a rather expensive one, but we’re talking about brands like Sulwhasoo and SK-II which are generally high end brands anyways. Purchasing high end brands (especially in duo sets) at duty free is a great way to save $$$!

This year, my duty free haul contains some of my holy grails and some new desperate to try items.

So rambling aside, lets jump in and enjoy!

Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact First Impressions

First Impressions: Too Cool For School’s Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact

Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact

Hello lovely Wonderlandians and welcome back to the Rainy Wonderland Blog (and hello to new viewers – I’m Tinnie!).

I’m starting off 2018 with something well, a bit 2017  – this Too Cool For School’s Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact was possibly one of the most hyped about products of 2017. I’ve been eying this palette for a while but did not made the purchase until recently. I’ve been loving my Benefit’s Hoola Bronzing powder (review: here ) but I found it was a bit too orangey for my yellow toned skin. This TCFS Art Class By Rodin Shading has a more neutral undertone which may suit my Asian skin a bit better, so here goes …

Today’s post will not be my typical review but more of a first impressions since I’ve not had this shading palette for all the long. 😉

Let’s begin!

Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact

What it is

Taking cues from the master sculptor himself, Too Cool For School’s Art Class by Rodin’s contouring powder lets you “sculpt” your way to a more defined and highlighted face, by means of strategic strokes of your makeup brush. Enhance your existing, beautiful features and bone structure by either combining all three shades to create dimension, or by using the shades separately to highlight desired features. This contouring palette is baked, which lends to deeper pigmentation, and smoother texture, for a flawless application and radiant finish.

Beneficial ingredients Free from:

triclosan, mit, mineral oil, silicones, parabens, propylene glycol, tea, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasers, alcohol, sulfates, formaldehyde, peg, coal tar, dye, sodium lauryl sulfate
Full ingredients

Talc, Mica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Magnesium Stearate, Nylon 12, Diisostearyl Malate, Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Alumina, Silica, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499

Packaging: Pretty cool. The packaging itself is ligthweight and somewhat flimsy in real life but the actual design looks pretty cool. The compact comes with a pretty decent quality mirror which is always good.

Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact Shades

Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact Swatches

Shades: Great. I love the trio of shades available here, you’ve got a nice highlighting shade, a more blue toned middle shade and then a deeper brown shade. These are the type of shades that I tend to gravity towards when I’m doing my eye makeup. When I mix these three together I get a nice brownish contouring shade that is almost similar as the Benefit’s Hoola except not as orangey (I wonder if it’ll match the Hoola light?).

Too Cool For School Art Class By Rodin Contouring Pact VS Benefit's Bronzing Powder

Formula: Powder. Obviously this is a powdered based contouring pact, it feels rather velvety on the skin but besides that there’s nothing too special about it.

Price: Mid-High end. So at $29.90 AUD for 9.5g worth it’s not exactly cheap but then again it’s not as expensive as other conturing pacts out there.

Overall,  when I first applied it I found that it was actually too orangey for my skin tone. I was really after a more neutral shade that will give me a subtle contour rather than one that would really stand out and make it obvious that I’m actually wearing contour. By the end of the day the initial orangey effect has died down a little and I’m left with something a bit more subtle. Like I said this is only a first impression and I’m expecting this pact to grow on me! All in all I’m not too disappointment about this pact at in but I’ve yet got anything amazing to shade. We’ll have to see how this goes!

Again, thanks for visiting and until next time,
