Dupe alert! Dupe for the SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion?

Welcome and thank you for visiting The Rainy Wonderland!

What sends a shiver down my spine is the envision of heat and humidity, the former causing oil to ooze out of my facial sweat glands likes there’s no tomorrow – and the latter, traps the oil on my face making it a greasy film-like mess. Of course this is a recipe for acne .. red painful scary acne which causes irritation and emotional destress for weeks. Now, I know what you’re thinking .. ‘your so dramatic, just cleanse and wash your face’ .. which I agree, but I’ve tried and it’s simply not enough! 😦

Sk-II clear Lotion Dupe

In countries that are always humid like Singapore a regular anti-acne step in your skincare routine is a must (especially if you’ve got oily skin like moi)… or even during summer or periods when you know you’re at risk of acne (like that special time of the month). Often people would use an anti acne cleanser then a strong alcohol toner just to make sure they remove that film-like grease off their faces. Now with this anti-acne routine you’re at risk of ‘over cleansing’ your face – removing too much oil and leaving it dehydrated!  It’s incredibly hard to find a toner that helps removes residue oil & makeup, hydrates and is also anti-aging … and for a long time I could only think of one that could do all the above so well.. the SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion.

Let’s dive into a brief review of the Clear Lotion before we reveal the dupe shall we?

This effective toning lotion with a mix of AHA and Pitera™ exfoliates dead skin cells and impurities. Its clarifying formula prepares the face for the rest of your skincare regimen.

There’s no complaint when it comes to SK-II’s packaging. It comes in a nice 150mL frosted glass bottle that is pretty heavy and non-travel friendly (but looks great on the vanity table).  It doesn’t come with a pump or spray pump, so you’d have tip it over to get some product out of it before every application.

Water, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Butylene Glycol, PEG-20 Sorbitan Cocoate, Glycerin, Methylparaben, Sodium Benzoate, PEG-150, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Citrate, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate.

It’s a nice and concise ingredients list with Galactomyces to help with the anti-aging and glowing part of the claims. The Malic Acid and Salicylic Acid should help with the exfoliating and anti-acne side of things.

How I use it

Sk-II Clear Lotion - how to use

I generally use it in summer, simply because my sweat glands sleep during winter. I apply 3-4 drops onto a cotton pad and wipe it onto my face, focusing on the T-zone. Alot of the time I find myself too heavy handed and use up wayyyy more lotion than really necessary and my heart hurts when I throw away those lotion soaked cotton pads (there goes my hard earned money 😦 ).

Why I love it

Despite the hefty price tag – I love this lotion! During summer it keeps my facial oils at bay, the Salicylic Acid (though very little) helps keeps the acne at bay also. Besides it also contains the star ingredient – Pitera, which leaves your skin looking youthful and glowy – making it a valuable addition to your anti-aging routine. Moreover, it refines my skin texture – after two weeks of regular use my skin looks even and pores almost invisible (and I have BIG pores).

So, who’s the dupe?

Pleases put your hands together for ….. the COSRX’s Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner!

Formulated with Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate 10%, this alcohol-free toner helps nourish and hydrate the skin, and over time making it appear more radiant and clear.
Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner is made of a fermented component with a structure similar to skin, helping with nourishing and hydrating the skin. It is formulated with the best yeast for the skin, which is Galactomyces. It is a filtered and fermented ingredient, endowing unhealty skin with radiance and vitality. It’s suitable for all skin types.

The packaging is nice and simple plus travel friendly too. The plastic bottle and the spray pump makes it super easy and fast to use. It comes in a 150ml bottle – which is the same as the SK-II Clear Lotion.

Mineral Water, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Panthenol, Allantoin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Ethyl Hexanediol

I love that this toner has a nice and relatively short ingredients list. The mineral water is from Jeju (Island in Korea) and whilst it only contains 10% of the Galactomyces , I’m not too fussed about this low fermented concentration – especially since that what SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence is for anyways! 😉

Why I think it’s a great dupe!

Firstly the price, both comes in a bottle of 150 mL – the SK-II Clear Lotion costed ~ $95 whilst the Cosrx’s Galactomyces Alcohol Free Toners costed me $22.95 AUD. So it’s a no brainer that Cosrx’s toner is a lot more affordable.

If you look at the top three ingredients in both ingredient’s lists, you can see that they are pretty similar. The biggest difference between SK-II’s and Cosrx’s is that Cosrx’s does not contain any Salicylic Acid – which may means that it would be slightly lacking in the anti-acne department. I can see that the Salicylic Acid is also pretty low on SK-II’s ingredients list, so to me it’s pretty negligible. .. Also from personal experience I feel that Cosrx’s Galactomyces Toners helps inhibit acne growth via it’s effective removal of my facial oils anyways so … ! 🙂

Lastly, I think it’s important to clarify that the Galactomyces in SK-II’s Clear Lotion and the one is Cosrx’s is NOT the same, SK-II has patented Pitera so obviously no one else can use it.  Though I feel Cosrx’s Galactomyces does an equally good job, so I don’t mind that it’s not Pitera.

How I use it

How to use Cosrx Galactomyces

Now – how I use it depends on how badly I need sleep at night or how late I am for work in the mornings. If I’ve got time I spray three sprays onto a cotton pad and wipe it over my face, if I’m in a haste then I spray it directly only my face and pat into my face using my clean palms.

Why I love it

It’s super easy to use and it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated. Also it’s super affordable and the Galactomyces (though not the same one as the SK-II’s Clear Lotion) would be a great part of my anti-aging routine.

Surprisingly it helped keep the acne in check for me too and it helps evens out my skin texture making the pores less obvious.

I love both products! The SK-II Clear Lotion is an amazing product but unfortunately not very budget friendly, the Cosrx’s Alcohol-Free Toner would do a pretty comparable job to the Clear Lotion and in all honestly I for-see many more repurchases! 😉

Thats it folks! I hope it was useful and do give Cosrx’s Galactomyces Alcohol-Free toner a try (it’s actually a pretty readily available brand).

Until next time, stay curious!
